A reason to get up in the morning

If we don’t have something to pursue, a goal to go after, or a project to work on, we stay inside our personal borders and begin to live in a vacuum, our selves wearing away with worries, troubles, fears and self-pity.
Find something bigger than yourself; often something that involves helping other people, and feel your inner energy come alive again.
Larry
I look forward to your thoughts each day.
Thanks
Love this! Serving others and working to make the world a better place allows us to lose ourselves and find, I believe, the most happiness and joy.
Totally agree!

I was near a TV playing and I couldn’t help but take note of the content of the show and the commercials. Many commercials were for things we shouldn’t eat, drugs we shouldn’t take, personal injury lawyers, and so on. The show itself exhibited bad behavior and ethics all the way around.
It may only seem unusual to the majority who are the conformists, but I think it’s a good idea to think for yourself and take your own path.
The invention of cable tv was sold to the public because they told us it would have way less commercials ! Ha! How many found that to be true? It’s a waist of everyone’s time and we even pay for it !
Larry ..Baby did you smoke it but not inhaled….!!! Lol were you watching TV or not Take responsibility
.thanks for making me laugh today on a serious note ur right on bout the conformity…

Hey everyone! One element of Think Daily from the beginning has been the photos matched to the message. I have collected so many photos and going through them to get one that compliments the message takes a lot of time, but I think really helps. I have taken most of the photos I use myself.
Here is your chance to send me photos that I can use. I can use more photos in my collection of people – in groups interacting, expressing any emotion, and doing any variety of activities. They don’t have to be great quality or great lighting necessarily.
I can also use photos that are metaphors and symbols and interesting things. If you send me photos, one day you may see them in a Think Daily message!

Should we avoid pain?

It’s a strange question. On one hand, yes of course we should avoid pain. Things hurt as a signal that they are not good for us. But if we go around avoiding all pain, we’ll never try anything hard, tough, or difficult. If we do that, we’ll never accomplish anything worth talking much about – we’ll never reach our potential.
While we don’t want anymore pain than necessary, and we don’t want the emotional pain that comes from self-torment and misusing our minds, pain is often a right of passage to great achievement.
Never thought about pain that way! I have 2 people in mind for ” Think Daily” 🙂 and they will spread the word!

2016 Human Freedom Index

In a free society, personal autonomy, civil liberties, and economic freedom are inextricably intertwined. “The Human Freedom Index” is an annual publication from the Cato Institute, the Fraser Institute, and the Liberales Institut of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom that aims to provide a careful measurement of the inherently valuable role that freedom plays in human progress. The index published here presents a broad measure of human freedom, understood as the absence of coercive constraint. It uses 79 distinct indicators of personal and economic freedom in the following areas:
- Rule of Law
- Security and Safety
- Movement
- Religion
- Association, Assembly, and Civil Society
- Expression
- Relationships
- Size of Government
- Legal System and Property Rights
- Access to Sound Money
- Freedom to Trade Internationally
- Regulation of Credit, Labor, and Business
the 2016 rankings, the Top 10 Freest Countries across all categories – Hong Kong, Switzerland, New Zealand, Ireland, Denmark, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Finland, Netherlands.
The United States ranked in 23rd place this year.
The least free are Libya, Yemen, Iran, Syria and the Central African Republic.
I would have thought that the USA would rank higher than 23rd. Having said that with the recent onslaught of onerous regulations and PC coercion to do what some think to be the “right thing” that has eroded some of our long held freedoms. My hope is that we will remain a country that is free enough to allow individuals to pursue their dreams and have an economic background that encourages that. #LandoftheFree
Ouch. As a veteran, I would like to see these numbers improve. the USA has the potential to create an environment where people can accomplish anything. Still, in the face of challenges, a true winner will overcome all odds.

I herein cut and paste the following excerpt from a father’s advice to his son going to college, for your information-
Your brain, social media and binge-watching.
Now that internet access is omnipresent on college campuses, academics are looking at its connection to your GPA and your life after college. One of the first efforts from Oxford (UK) looked at the impact on student GPA from the use of technology while studying. Here’s what they found: while increasing use of email and search engines was positively correlated with GPA, activities such as texting, instant messaging and media platforms like Facebook hurt student GPA. What this is really all about: humans have maximum capacities for cognitive learning through verbal and auditory channels, and with too much social media use, many people hit their multi-tasking limits.
An even bigger distraction is video streaming. A Texas Tech professor estimates that 9 out of 10 students use services like Netflix, and that ~70% binge-watch shows (i.e., watching at least 3 episodes at a stretch). Over the long run, what’s the risk of too much TV and not enough physical activity? By the time you reach middle age, your ability to perform simple matching and numeric tasks could erode. Too much screen time was also associated with premature aging in a 2015 study from the Mayo Clinic, and with depression and loneliness in a 2015 study on binge-watching from the University of Texas.
End of excerpt.
Go outside and play.
Excellent, perceptive, well-founded advise!
Get outside. It will change your life for the better.

I began writing Think Daily in April of 2009 and Think Daily for Businesspeople about 4 months later. Since then I have never missed a weekday message, and our subscriber list has grown to 5005 for Think Daily and 3631 for Think Daily for Businesspeople.
It’s a new year and I want to thank you for being with me this last year. Why am I thanking you? Because by knowing you are out there, expecting a message each day, has motivated me to keep going with this. And by having to come up with something that adds to people each day has made me better.
I’m mostly a writer and a trainer these days, in between living a wide life – personally and in business. I know I have become a better trainer as a result of writing Think Daily messages. I know that the thinking and writing skills I have sharpened will be used for even greater good as I grow up.
I sincerely hope that you have benefitted too. I just love to hear that my message resonated with or helped someone that particular day. Like when I talked about night following day, and day following night; the night always ends and the sun always rises no matter what – giving us hope and a new chance. That message really helped someone that day. That keeps me going.
So often people say I was reading their mind, or ask how I knew what they needed to hear that day. Of course the answer is that we are all the same. The journey of being human is scarcely different for any one of us. We may be living in a different place, at a different age or scale, but what goes on inside of us is something we all share. It’s a journey of excitment, ambition and hope, interrupted by desperation, sadness and despair.
In all this, we never lose our power to help others with our words and encouragement – and in giving that away, we are left filled that much more. If we know how we work, (ourselves and others), we can live better, more fulfilling lives for the time we’re here. And that’s important, because this is our shot; right now, and it’s going fast.
I’ll keep it going if you will. Deal?
The two things that encourage me are referring others and making comments, as so many of you have.
Thanks again for being there. Let’s make it a great 2017 together! – Larry
Thank You! Keep up the great work. I will continue to share your words with others. 2017!! #MAGA
You really do great work with this. I enjoy it on many levels. I don’t take it for granted so thank you and have a great 2017.
Larry,
Thanks so much for being so dedicated each and every weekday morning. Think Daily is always the first to emails I look at each morning to get my day started right. Often times you’ll write something I don’t want to hear, but so badly need to hear. Thanks for all you do for so many.
Shane

So proud of you.
I was on a beautiful hike with some friends on New Years Eve; and I was asked who my mentors have been? While I have been blessed to have many over time I was quick to tell them about this guy named Larry Janesky and the impact he has had on me over the last several years. I am a better Leader and business person because of your impact on me.
Thank You Larry
I agree! This resonated the loudest to me: It’s a journey of excitment, ambition and hope, interrupted by desperation, sadness and despair. Remember that interruptions are brief and meant to be deflected from our chosen path!
Thank you Larry and Happy New Year!!
Thank you Larry!!!!
Happy New Year!!!

Deal Larry! keep up the great work and thank you for all you have done. You’ve made a difference in my business and in my life. Thank you. I look forward to all the challenges in 2017.
Hi Larry
Ever since my daughter gave me a copy of the Highest Calling and signed me up for think daily i have improved my life in so many ways.
Thank You!
Thanks Larry for your continuing dedication to Think Daily. It is an inspiration for all of us.
I am fasting from media for January and have unsubscribed to most of my email traffic including Charles Spurgeon. I was waiting to unsubscribe to yours today. I typically read them in the AM but here at 19:15 I’ve just opened yours with the intention of unsubscribing. After reading this I’ve realized that I share your blog with several young men both in business and some not. Just for encouragement. Hearing your request and understanding that it helps you as well. Sooo…Deal it is then. I can afford this important blog! Thanks, giving is growing aye!
Thanks Larry, it’s a deal. Have a healthy and prosperous 2017.
David
A year or 2 ago you wrote about what we are listening and reading in our spare time. I since have been playing books on CD while driving. Mostly business related, some I have played over for months. I spend a lot of time driving.
Thanks Larry for all you do. Sometimes I find myself repeating what I have read In Think Daily all day long even telling others so don’t stop we need you.Have a Fantastic 2017.
Thanks for using your talents to inspire and motivate us to be better leaders!
Thank you Larry for what you do, I look forward to seeing what you have to say everyday I open my email, much appreciated.
Very powerful words Larry:
It’s a journey of excitement, ambition and hope, interrupted by desperation, sadness and despair.
In all this, we never lose our power to help others with our words and encouragement – and in giving that away, we are left filled that much more.
Through the ups and downs of life, it’s about making a difference in the lives of those around us.
These messages are such a part of the day. Some I save, some are used in blogs, some for training. Keep them going.
DEAL!!
Been reading think daily for a while now. Always great to have words that will cause me to “think” and move me to action based on validating the information in my life. We come from all walks of life, positions/careers, all ages, and many different goals/visions. But what most of us share is the desire to better ourselves, our families and our communities. All think daily writings are great for everybody. We also have to remember, who is the provider of all blessings on earth and who all praise should go to.
I look forward to the continued learning from think daily and hopefully “taking action” on more of the great advice, vs just reading it, like I usually do! 🙂
Happy New Year to you as well!
This year I am spending the New Year in an ICU room in Denever where my father has experienced a heart attack.
As I watch the army of health care providers attend to my father and make him as comfortable as possible, I am grateful for their dedication and hard work. Their job is far from glamorous, yet they do it with supreme compassion, cheerfulness and professionalism.
I look forward to reading Business Daily every day. So often when I feel lost or stuck it shows the way out.
Your wisdom, focus and professionalism
inspires me every day.
Thank you.
Thank you for such positive feeds all year long LJ. I wish you rhinoceros success in 2017.
Thanks to you I stopped listening to you suck radio!!
Larry,
THANK YOU
Thank you. I frequently am glad I have read your email. Keep them coming.
Today I’m grateful for Think Dailey!

Should free speech include offending people?

Free speech is the bedrock of a free society. In countries that are not free, they will throw you in jail if you speak out against or insult the government, the leader, or their religion. Crazy, huh?
What about here though? If we censor or make it a crime to offend people, aren’t we doing the same thing?
If we can’t say anything that may offend a person or group, we are open to an interpretation of what is offensive – and that is dangerous. People have different definitions of morality, different beliefs, habits and customs. Limitations on speech lead to authoritarian regimes where people are oppressed, particularly groups that the ruling regime doesn’t like.
While offending people may be showing intolerance, perhaps ignorance, and may be in poor taste, and while being offended is no fun, it is a small price to pay to live in a free society where we get to express ourselves freely.
Comment with the orange button!
Being free does not eliminate our personal responsibility to be a morally good person in speech and actions. We are bound to offend someone somewhere sometime, but if our intentions are morally sound, that offense is easier to swallow than if the intentions were in a mean hearted manner. Sometimes things need to be said or actions taken that will offend some people, but sometimes those things can be tempered out of love for our neighbor.
complete agreement
I have no control over how someone edits the information People often choose to be offended by the slightest thing But I do have complete control over what I say So do I mean what I say or am I mean about what I say Thanks Larry and have a great day
I can tolerate that… can you?
There is a reason the founding fathers made freedom of speech the “1st” amendment. That was not by happenstance.
I agree 100% percent with what the first Tim said. I would just add that if you say it and it is coming from a morally sound position, own it. Don’t back off, but be willing to hear another side. Just remember that some people have a different morality and sense of what is right and wrong than you do, and they have the right to be offended and disagree with you. That is when they exercise their freedom of speech. The biggest problem this country faces right now with freedom of speech is that no one wants to debate and learn, they only want to scream their own agenda and not listen to any other ideas.
Could not agree more! Unfortunately, it seems that the further left one may be on the political scale of things the more we are told by them that we must have a tolerance towards the things they embrace and to give them the freedom to espouse their beliefs. Which incidentally I completely agree with. But, if for some reason we don’t hold those same beliefs or see something flawed in it, we are expected to be muffled and not have the same liberty that they have to express their convictions. There is something disingenuous about that to me. What’s good for the goose should equally be as good for the gander.
A quote from todays “Think Daily “ is “People have different definitions of morality, different beliefs, habits and customs. Limitations on speech lead to authoritarian regimes where people are oppressed……….it is a small price to pay to live in a free society where we get to express ourselves freely….”
It is my opinion that there is no such thing as absolute freedom. Including freedom of speech. This is because of two things First: Where my actions begin to encroach on another’s freedoms, have I not suppressed or oppressed theirs? Second: Like it or not there has to be a protective standard of measure of some sort. That standard should be open to debate and perhaps ever evolving, but there must be one. Because without it, the price to be paid may not be so small.
Example: Would you allow a child pornographer and/or a child molester open access to express their views on nudity, love, and sex to the students in an elementary school? WHY NOT? It’s just their freedom of speech. If you censor it, you open the door to being taken over by an oppressive authoritarian regime. Right?
Point to Ponder: Most, if not all, historians agree that Adolf Hitler had a powerful gift of speech. Hitler spoke Unbridled, Unchecked, and Uncensored. How did that work out in terms of human rights and regimes?
In terms of my personal standard and free speech I end my comment with quote from Lori Hatcher:
“I can’t curse those who don’t believe as I do. I can’t express hate or disdain for those who criticize what I hold dear. I can’t outshout, bully, or taunt them. I can’t exercise the liberty of free speech because I answer to a higher law. I answer to the Word of God.” ― Lori Hatcher
Agreed. Those that are offended by what others say have a complete backward attitude toward life. If the thoughts and words of people have that much of a bearing on your feelings, you have failed at life. The thoughts and words that others have should have no bearing on the thoughts and feelings of yourself. Who cares what others think, be happy with yourself.
Actually, Dan, it IS by happenstance that the First Amendment is first. There were two other amendments passed by the first Congress, and numbered 1 and 2, but they were not ratified by the states. Still, it’s a happenstance that worked out well.
Happy new year, Larry!
Lenny Bruce said it best. If we can`t say fuck, we can`t say fuck the government.
Amen!

If I don’t approve of wasteful spending in my house I wouldn’t approve of the government doing so…especially if I was in debt and added to my debt with the wasteful spending. Get our national debt down and then if you have a surplus to have fun with fine…needs to stop!
I see a problem with it. A large central government and liberty are mutually exclusive. The founding fathers were vehement in their opposition to a standing army, for good reason.
Not at all. Especially if I was the cop who had to put my life on the line to safe someone who was being held hostage and knowing a vehicle of that type would be a great asset. These types of vehicles have been deemed surplus and no longer needed by the military. They have been bought and paid for by tax dollars. They would be just sitting around mothballed and rotting away. Unfortunately our government has created such a “Free Society” that it increasingly causes otherwise innocent people to become victimized. You want people to be able to own and in some states carry assault type weapons, then you better be prepared to have police officers having armored vehicles available to use when needed. Remember, they want to be able to go home to their families at the end of a days work just like you do. Would you want to be the law enforcement officer that will be duty bond to have to approach a school loaded with kids where some “citizen or guest to this country” is barricaded inside with a weapon that contains rounds that will penetrate your supposed Bullet Proof Vest????
good morning larry i ,you and government know the level of corruption thats been going on since 1776 i enjoy and pass on to my kids the solid and practical wisdom you pass to us stick with the positive your good at it thx bob
They should take the $500,000 and fund
Public art and education .
That’s absurd, I went to keene state and lived off campus there for 4 years and it’s a very safe place. The audacity that the police dept has to even ask for something like that is embarrassing. I do blame our government for giving in but I blame keene pd or nh police for making a ludicrous request. It’s sad.
Of course it’s ludicrous. I wonder if Donald Trump is aware of this. If not, maybe he should be. Then it would be interesting how he handles the situation.
I agree that we should be providing our police forces with what they need to do their work BUT $7B – wow – for vehicles that are not neccessarily – “neccessary”.
Thanks for the info Larry.
Peter
These vehicles are bought on credit from our grandchildren. If they were used in the military and have been retired, I don’t have a problem with it especially with the amount of un-vetted refuges Obama is bringing in. Remember this? “we are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America”. He did what he said he would do. Unfortunately, it will cost this nation, our children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren greatly! But he does not care about that sitting with Secret service protection for the rest of his life. He will not have to worry about the debt either nor will his children with the amount of money he will earn in “Clinton style”.
In Canada it is the Same, Toronto Police vehicles and uniforms now look like they are working in a war zone! Scary
Yes, I see a huge problem. This has been going on for years, and is effectively negating the 2nd amendment.
It is clearly known within the :Deep State” of our government that the greatest threat of terrorism is from within “We the people” and not as likely from a foreign entity (unless we’ve done something to provoke). Our country was founded by terrorists and through many acts of terrorism we have become a world power. I often ask myself what is the difference between a patriot and terrorist, and in the end, how are of these labels awarded? Is it not the victors choosing, who tells the story from their perspective in history books? I remain grateful for everything this land has given me but that doesn’t mean I have to be unconditionally proud of its history or rulers. Maybe the militarization of our police force Is being driven by are own fears to protect the status quo. Do you think this fear that appears to be so pervasive, may be overcome by looking inside ourselves and finding courage through awareness to make change or do we sit back and wait for the “Great Pumpkin” to come? Keene will be ready and waiting.
