Would you rather be “disciplined” by others, or disciplined by yourself?
Self-discipline is essential to succeeding at anything.
If you can’t do the right thing when nobody is looking, there is no hope for you. Sorry.
Freedom is when others don’t have to tell you what to do all the time. I know what to do and can control myself, (thank you very much).
Self-disciplined (+ other qualities) = free (and likely prosperous).
There’s that corollary, you can’t lie to yourself. In hunting, ethics are exactly that, what you’ll do if no one is watching. Discipline is a learned behavior and the more you practice it, the easier it is to do. Remember, you can’t build an ark in the midst of the flood
Today I am grateful for starting my days reading Think Daily!
And “failing” as a young person, being sent to military school and learning self discipline.
Thanks for the shout out Larry!
My husband always tells me I’m good at creating problems, which ultimately move our business and our life forward. It’s my form of self discipline to go ALL IN, then there is no other choice but to keep going.
I’ll take discipling myself ten times before I allow someone else to hand out disciplinary actions to me. Besides that, no one person could be as hard on me as I am on myself.
What is the “right” thing? According to whom? Different cultures have very different versions of right and wrong. Eating people is only wrong if you’re not a cannibal. Clear-cutting an ancient redwood forest is only right if you’re a logger or developer.
Kop Kopmeyer once said, “There are 999 other success principles that I have found in my reading and experience, but without self-discipline, none of them work.”
