“For the first time in human history, more people die from eating too much than from eating too little; more people die from old age than from infectious diseases; and more people commit suicide than are killed by soldiers, terrorists, and criminals combined. In the twenty-first century, the average human is far more likely to die from binging at McDonald’s than from drought, Ebola, or an al-Qaeda attack. Sugar is now more dangerous than gunpowder.” – Yuval Noah Harari, Homo Deus, a Brief History of Tomorrow.
I’m glad I mostly only have to worry about me.
The question is, can you win against yourself?
The greatest battle I have fought in my life is against myself. It was always that way, I just didn’t know it or understand that until recently.
It’s amazing how much sugar is in things you wouldn’t think has sugar but does. It’s so easy to take in more sugar than is recommended without even realizing it.
Amen to, “the greatest battle”… i ever fought was/is against self. I am a vegetarian.
Wow. Thats very sobering.
Again, you have me thinking outside of the box. Wow. I am a vegetarian.
Just had my annual physical. Told my doctor I eat a little bacon a few times a month when on my camping property in the mountains. All my labs are great. He said, tell your wife your bacon consumption is fine! And that’s coming from a Jewish doctor. Keep up with your healthy lifestyle, he said. And that I will do! About your quoted post, I had a hard time believing the statistic so I looked it up. The internet says, Suicide (Singularly): Over 720,000 lives are lost to suicide annually worldwide. Combined Violent Deaths: Roughly 556,000 lives are lost each year to the collective actions of criminals, terrorists, and soldiers.
Hell yeah!
80% Vegetarian. In the words of Michael Greger, MD (and author of “How to Eat Not to Die”), THE LESS MEAT YOU EAT (THE LESS ANIMAL PRODUCTS), THE BETTER. This is not an all-or-nothing game.
The question is, can you win against yourself?
That is a great question.
You have to be in it to win it.
You are in charge of you.
it’s up to you.
