Zero Sum Thinking

This is the idea that a gain for me is a loss for someone else.  It’s scarcity thinking – that there is not enough to go around.  But it’s wrong.  

If we wish for our neighbors to have less, will that help us have more?  Or would we rather live in a prosperous neighborhood? How about at work?  Don’t we wish everyone does well?  How about nations?  Will it help us if other nations are prosperous or poor?

If others around you are doing well, it only helps you do well too.

"Life is not a dress rehearsal"

I always loved this thought.  We are not practicing for another life.  We are not waiting for the curtain to rise on the real life for us.  This is it.  This is the one.  This is the time. Now.  And soon this chance will be over – gone.

Yes it’s true.  This is the one shot you have.  The one year when you will be the age you are.  

Is there something you want to do with your chance?  What are you waiting for? 

Captive – and Captor

Feel trapped by your situation?

Look around you.  Do you see any physical walls or 12 foot high fences with razor wire at the top?  

We build walls in our minds by clinging to the past, attaching meaning, reliving events that cause negative emotions over and over, and underestimating ourselves.

Walls we built can vanish quickly – if we make a new decision. 

The deciding vote

God has voted for you.

Satan has voted against you.

You cast the deciding vote.

So it didn’t work out the way you thought or wanted.  You didn’t get there from where you were.

Ok.  So, how do you get there from where you are now?

I start it, I finish it

When you begin a task or project, and you don’t bring it to a conclusion, you never get that feeling of accomplishment that fuels the next project.  And if people see you don’t finish things, they won’t give you any more to do and you’ll be less important and less relevant.

If you start it, no matter how long it takers, finish it – and finish strong.

Keep your word

If people begin to understand that when you say you’ll do something or be somewhere, (however small or unimportant it may be) that you may or may not, you will loose your credibility.

When people come to understand they can’t count on you, your life takes a turn for the worse. A heavy self-inflicted loss indeed.

Keep your word.  Always.

But if you are willing to do what’s hard, life will be very easy.
