I know that your posts are trying to trigger out-of-the-box thinking and motivate, but it’s important to keep in the mind the exact meaning of words and concepts. You are equating the concept “reason” with being overly cautious and risk averse. There is nothing in the definition of being reasonable that suggests that.
Ayn Rand called this an epistemological “packaged deal” of inserting double (or more) meanings time one concept. This is why she chose to fight for the word “selfish” that carries more than one meaning.
Being reasonable means using reason and full context to understand reality, yourself and then choosing and acting on your goals. Reason (properly understood) is man’s means of survival and it shouldn’t be abandoned – it has no conflict with emotions, passion, or risk-taking. In many cases those perfectly align.
I totally agree! If I had listened to others, years ago, I would not be where I am today. If I listen to them today, I will not be where I am going to be tomorrow or where I will be in 5 years. They say I’m crazy, and maybe I am, but I am having the time of my life and have a lot of other people going along with me on the journey!
Mr. Tsfany- I would think it is important to understand your audience. A lot of us are contractors and if I saw the word “epistemological” that would be the end of my attention. Personally, without taking every word for it’s literal meaning, I understood and liked this post.
Needed this today. We are making bold moves which cause my inner voice to say “what are you doing?” “Who do you think you are?” It will never work!” Reading these each morning give me the bolt of confidence and quiet in the storm that I need!
