A snowball’s chance…

Do we bet the farm on a long shot?  Not usually a good idea.  But if we limit the things we try to only the things that have a high probability of working, we’re probably limiting the chances that we’ll make any big breakthroughs that really matter.

A battle of ideas

We must convince our fellows that the businessman and the entrepreneur are not exploiters or the enemies of the poor – that they are in fact the drivers of wealth and transformation.  Capitalism and markets are not dirty words; they are inseparable from progress, from prosperity, from civilization.  It is socialism, communism, nationalization, and nationism, which are in fact the main reasons for poverty, misery, and our inequalities.

We are in a cultural battle, a battle of idea.  It will be difficult to win.  But we must win.

Capitalism – part two

Our intellectuals have largely turned away from the very system that has made their comfortable lives possible.  Capitalism is blamed for creating poverty, and for corrupting the masses with consumer goods.  Capitalism is blamed for introducing new ways of living and thereby undermining traditions and communities, and for strengthening the “patriarchy” and “cultural imperialism.”  It seems whatever the problem, capitalism is to blame.

Is it time for you and I to do a better job defending capitalism and its firm moral position?

Capitalism needs your voice

Capitalism suffers from inept, incompetent, and weak-kneed defenses.  It’s blamed for everything bad that ever happens, and never gets credit for the good it creates.  It’s lifted hundreds and hundreds of millions of people out of poverty, but it’s hated for “creating inequality.”  It’s good, but almost universally condemned as, at best, a “necessary evil.”  In public opinion polls, capitalism scores well on efficiency, and strikes out on morality.

We need a systematic, bold, and unafraid moral defense of free market capitalism.

Prevailing Emotional Wind

Others’ attitudes are all around us.  Our employees each have theirs, but they are all subject to shifting with the prevailing energy. 

Is your (or your other leaders’) productive, positive attitude communicated strongly enough so that it prevails in your organization?

C’mon – Admit It

Have you ever, or do you still, think that what employees and/or customers want and what you want are at odds?  That if they get what they want, you can’t get what you want?

If so, that’s a big problem.

Your business should serve you by serving employees and customers.  If it’s not that way, then get yourself together and come to work on a fresh day with a smart, solid plan and fix it.
