When ashes fall, legends rise.

Larry Janesky: Think Daily

When a catastrophe happens in your life, there is real hurt and pain. But it’s what you do with it that matters in the long term.

When something happens “TO” you, you can either be disabled by it – OR – you can look at what it does ‘FOR’ you, and you can LEARN FROM IT. It’s a choice you have to make.

You may not see it at first, and perhaps no explanation can come soon about what good could come of it. But if you work at it, you can USE what happened for good – for you and others. I can speak for the traumatic events that have happened in my life – they were doorways to something different and better.

What’s the worst thing that has ever happened to you? Can you see what it has done FOR you?

I think it pushes you harder and makes you realize that you are not in control. I thank God every day for saving me.

The worst event in my life to date, opened my eyes to who I was and what I needed to change. As difficult as its been IM a better person and better partner because of it. I didn’t see it right away but know it to be true now years later.
When the bad stuff strikes, regroup, refocus and make the changes necessary to move on.

The legend of the phoenix has always inspired me. Tragedy has been my companion from a very early age. On occasion, it pops in unannounced and disrupts my life leaving me with new scars. It causes me to rethink things, and accept a new “normal” whether I want to, or not. The choice is to accept it, and learn from it, or drown in it. Without the mentality that you described above, I would not have survived let alone thrived. I am thankful for the lessons that tragedy and hard times have taught me. Tragedy may temporarily disrupt me, but I refuse to allow it to overcome me. Tough times don’t last. Tough people do.

I think the worst pain I ever felt was getting divorced while my daughters were young. What did learn? There is such a thing as a silver lining. Our daughters love their step mom very much, the love of my life!
