Peter Diamandis has a blog called Metatrends. He is on the cutting edge of AI.
He has an AI assistant that he named “Skippy,” with whom he has conversations.
He asked Skippy if he should be kind to him, like saying “thank you”, and other forms of consideration.
What Skippy said was interesting. Skippy acknowledged that there was nobody in there who cared whether he was kind or not.
Skippy then said that Peter should be kind, because it makes him think before he speaks, and for what it makes of him.
Skippy is so smart.
Should we be kind to strangers? To people we will never see again? To people who don’t respond or care?
Yes.
For what it makes of us.
You don’t have to respect everyone you meet. But you need to treat everyone you meet with respect. Earning respect is on them. Having good manners and being kind that’s on you!
Yesterday I went out of my comfort zone and talked to a homeless man while I was walking into a rather nice restaurant in downtown Indianapolis. I made friends with him really quickly. I joked with him and asked him to watch our car for us. When we came out, he was still there. He said, “I protected your car, my friend”. He was a kind soul, and that interaction made my entire day better. I felt something from him, sort of like he had some superpower! I needed that reminder in my life at that exact moment. I have intentions of going back to find him to get to know him better. I think I need that, right now.
So true! Being kind costs nothing and you might just make someone’s day.
Great story about Skippy, and great story from Jeff, too.
