In the book “The Road Less Stupid”, author Keith Cunningham says “The majority of dumb taxes are paid when there was only one voice involved when the original decision was made.”
We are faulty decision makers. Once in a while, we get it right, and that is enough to keep us going, making less-than-ideal or bad decisions.
Talk it through with smart people you trust; people who will challenge you if you say something stupid, not yes men.
Multiple brains processing an idea will likely identify problems ahead of time more easily than just one.
Being a good leader is saving the organization from yourself.
I recently finished this book, and it’s been one of my favorites so far this year. One of the biggest aha moments for me was listening to Keith talk about focusing on standards more than goals. Standards tell you how to behave, while goals tell you what you want. If you don’t focus on the behavior first, you’ll never achieve the goal.
