What you walk past becomes the standard

Larry Janesky: Think Daily

Every problem you repeatedly ignore is receiving permission to remain.

You have to voice what you want and do not want.

I told my team, “If there is a piece of paper on the floor, I want you to pick it up.  If the wind is blowing it, I want you to chase it.”  Then I do it.  As I am walking and I see a bit of trash on the floor, I pick it up.  I want them to see me do it.  If no one is there, I do it anyway.

Leaders create standards through what they correct, reinforce, and personally model.  Address small safety, quality and behavior issues before they become accepted culture.
