Marketing is pre-selling

Larry Janesky: Think Daily

Marketing is telling your story to make people predisposed to want to call you, work with you, or buy your product.

With good marketing, selling is easier – they already know you, trust you, or want it.

Marketing is pre-selling.

The holy grail is to be so good at marketing that selling is unnecessary.  But let’s start with making selling easier first.

Who is your audience?

How are they getting your story?

How do they know what you can do for them?

I have extensive sales training (inevitable when your dad is Jim Burlison) and I feel like I can sell well, but having more people to sell to, who are predisposed to work with me, is the piece I’m missing. I admit, I like the thrill of turning cold prospects into customers, but I’m now convinced that marketing is paramount.
