We have a lot of noise going on. We create a lot of mental chatter. We take in visual and auditory inputs (the eyes and ears are where most information comes in) for our brains to process, and then we create even more mental chatter about what came in.
We can become addicted to the noise. We can lose our ability to think (and be) as we were designed.
We can feel overwhelm and depression.
There are so many folders open on our mental desk…
Stillness and quiet are strong remedies.
Shut down anymore inputs.
Go out in nature.
Let your brain process those folders and start putting them away.
In stillness we can think.
We can understand and decide.
We can feel who we genuinely are.
Every muscle needs its rest to develop.
I agree. I practice this daily by dedicating at least a half hour to get outside in the evening for some exercise. I’m usually thinking about work, buts it is more efficient than sitting at my desk pushing stuff around at the end of the day.
“Folders open on our mental desk …” Nice.
I run in the woods on Saturday mornings. Kicking through the autumn leaves is a fantastic feeling.
My best medicine is spending solo time at my base camp property in the mountains of WNC. My Sunday morning ritual of coffee, maps, and my journal keeps me more buoyant through the work week. This Sunday will be chilly enough to have my wood burning stove going in the outdoor kitchen.
