High prices fix high prices

Larry Janesky: Think Daily

We are in an economic boom.

There’s a shortage of materials and parts and people.

Prices are going up.  When prices are up, consumers figure out how to use less of it, and producers figure out how to produce more of it.  Soon enough the balance of supply and demand is resumed and prices are stable.

This is how free-market capitalism works.

Tom Fricker

6% increase on equipment 2/1/21. Now 7% on 6/1/21. Thx Joe!

Patricia Yoder

YES! No question….. People in our area don’t go to work because they can make more sitting at home. We have restaurants closing or cutting hours because of no workers! It is really bad!

Todd

We the people need to help our incoherent government to stop paying all this stimulus money. Make people work for what they get.

Dave Waldenberg

Yes! Prices are nuts. Ex: our equipment went up 7% in Jan and went up another 6% in April and I don’t think we are done.

Edgar Warriner

YES

Russell

Yes. And lets hope your right an things fix themselves. I’m not as optimistic. I see a flashback of 2008

Drew Barbosa

Yes

Mike Mitchell

Yes

Larry Giannone

Absolutely yes.

Bill

Yes!

Jeff

Yes… I’m not sure how these highly educated leaders of our country and states thought what they were doing with unemployment was a good idea. Now they want to give people, a sign on bonus I guess you’d call it, if they go back to work, lol, didn’t see that coming.

Don Godbout

Yes – people are making more money sitting home and collecting these stimulus checks. Businesses are desperate and offering more money than ever for help. Something’s gotta change soon.

Cole Tatge

Yes, absolutely! Sit on your a** and make more then most actual employers can/will pay means no one wants to work. No workers means nothing it getting made. Supply and demand, but demand hasn’t “really” went up. The supply has just decreased significantly.

Dave S

Yes current unemployment policy has caused a worker shortage. We asked a person picking up pallets at our shop if he wanted a job or knew anyone who did. He said no and that he knew many friends who were home enjoying the benefits that would be back working again after the benefits expire. One persons answer but I think it’s pervasive.

Burke Collins

Yes

Al Rhoney

Of course the extra unemployment compensation has created a worker shortage. The extra U/E equates roughly to the equivalent of 15.00 per hour. Why would anyone choose to give up 15.00 per hour for not working and go to work for minimum wage?

Mary Lawrence

ABSOLUTELY YES on prices/costs. We are also implementing a 2nd price increase this year. On the employee side we are doing well here at our company, retaining our good people. But are not currently hiring so have not reached out to the employment pool too much. Why would anyone want to return to work before they are sure all the stimulus and unemployment benefits are over??? Heaven forbid. (exasperated shrug emoji)

Joseph Green

Of Course it has!

Amy

yes!!

Jonny Norton

ABSOLUTELY YES

Mike Baker

Keep it simple!

Chad Goodhue

Yes it has caused an issue

Dennis J Chinea

Yes, there are less people available to work – why work when receiving so much in unemployment compensation.

Karl Bagwell

Yes. Its been a challenge to hire Carpenters/Painters/Shop workers

Danielle Olea

100% Yes! We are defiantly feeling it in our industry. The drive to work feels like it has fizzled out on most of the US (or at least California).

John Cossey

I would have to agree that the added unemployment benefits with no requirement to job seek are keeping some from entering the work force. We have been needing about 10 positions filled for several months, but within a few days of our governor saying he was not going to pay the additional weekly welfare, we filled all the positions and have a waiting list. Hmmmm…Do you think Joe was wrong in saying that it wasn’t deterring people from entering the workforce? But, that is only my personal experience. Here is a thought, maybe there are different circumstances in different parts of the country instead of a blanket approach that everybody needs the same thing. Just a Thought!!

Dan Gattuso

Our focus is too close. Zoom out. This is the planned destruction of Capitalism. Look at the Wold Economic Forums many agendas and the picture gets frighteningly clear.
“You will own nothing and you will be happy”.
P.S. This is how it was just done in Venezuela.

David Bryan

Yes. The enhanced unemployment benefits have created a problem with many businesses not being able to hire enough staff. It is absurd that people can make more money not working than they can from working. The intent was good. The result is bad.

Jeff

It hasn’t really caused me to have a shortage. However, it has been a little more difficult to “sell” our company to potential hires. The inflated unemployment benefits seem to be difficult for some to leave and get back to work. Flip side, those who are applying are serious and excited about getting back to work, they seem to be easier to get to buy in.

GALE CULBERT

absolutely… yes,…. without a doubt

Ronny Reeder

I understand the price increase but it seems like the suppliers use this as an excuse to keep the price high and don’t alway return to what they were or even close.

Clint Case

Yes

Jodi Lynn Fogarty

The additional monies are making it extremely difficult to even get people to apply, let alone come in for an interview that has been set up after speaking with them on the phone. Any dealers that have any ideas, please email me: [email protected] Thank you in advance for any help, it is greatly appreciated!!

Willis Ponds

We haven’t seen a decrease in our personal employees or in our immediate trades due to the increased unemployment compensation. However, I hear from many suppliers and manufacturers that they are having a shortage of workers. This is leading to supply shortages and higher prices.

Keith Miskovsky

I have been told by a lot of my customers they can’t find workers – so Yes
