“Job designer”

Larry Janesky: Think Daily

One critical part of a leader or manager’s job is to design jobs for your team members that they can be successful at.  Design positions where an individual won’t be overloaded or under loaded.  Design jobs for the individual personality and skill of the team member.  When the job grows too much for one person, divide it appropriately.  When the person outgrows the job, give them more or move them.
And remember, you having too much on your plate is no reason for any of your team to have too much on theirs.  Set them up for success.

Have you desinged jobs well in your organization?

Perfect timeing Larry, as we have made several changes in our company for this very reason. Thanks!

I really like this.

Ideally you take $15 an hour type people and design a job where they can easily make $20 or more. Make people feel well compensated and appreciated for their efforts and a lot of “silliness seeds” don’t germinate because they never get planted or watered.
