Long Term Planning Doesn't Work

Larry Janesky: Think Daily

The world is changing fast these days. Long term planning is to make too many assumptions (guesses). When you find any one is wrong, your whole plan is out the window.

We can’t figure out the business in the board room. We have to get out there and try things. By trying, we learn what to do next.

What are you trying now?

Larry,

Right on! Trial and Error over the God complex (or the Planning Complex).

Larry, I normally agree with most of what you write. However, long range planning is not a waste of time unless you stick it in a drawer and don’t use it. If its only a rigid document I agree, its useless. However, if it is part of your directional tools and you update it, modify it and share it in conjunction with your daily/weekly course adjustments it is a valuable way to keep all involved in the end game you are trying to accomplish.
