I read Wild at Heart years ago and it remains a go to for me. It helped fix the wounedness inside. I have watched it help so many men overcome marriage problems, addiction, depression, etc. I have personally walked several men through it as well as my son.

The highest calling is a real good book for general contractors

3️⃣ Other favorite authors, Larry Janesky, Joe Polish, Stephen Covey, Jim Rohn, Zig, Zigler, Brian Tracy, John, Maxwell, Tim Farris, Robert Kiyosaki, Dave Ramsey.

There are so many, based on where I am professionally and personally, I’ll limit my list to these: What Color Is Your Parachute? by Richard Bolles; Start with Why by Simon Sinek; and Tribes by Seth Godin. Currently reading 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth by John Maxwell.

How to win friends and influence people. It is dated but makes you rethink the way you treat people.

If I had to pick one: The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey. Lately, Never Split the Difference by Chris Voss.

“Man’s Search for Meaning” by Frankl made an indelible mark on me.

Recently finished Double Your Profit In 6 Months Or Less by Bob Fifer. It is packed with great general business info!

Love Works by Joel Manby. I believe it is a misconception that any one book is what you should solely base your business on…That being said, I think that they all can have a small piece to help influence or direct decisions you make. This book relates in a lot of ways to how we run our business. Valuing your team, but more than that, making sure they know there value.

Phycology of Achievement by Brian Tracey was the first personal development audio I listened to. Made me focus on what I could accomplish and I have never looked back. As Brian would say, I have the equivalent of several Master’s degree from all the books I have listened to in my 30 minute commute to work.

The one business and personal growth book was a CD left on everyone’s chair at the Basement Systems convention…I don’t remember the year. Zig Ziglar’s Biscuits, Fleas, and Pump Handles is a simple fun listen that opened my eyes to more is possible. It may not even be a book though it gets credit for me switching my reading to books that are helpful to growth. Since then I’ve consumed many great books via reading and listening as a result of listening to that one. Thanks Larry!

“See You At The Top” by Zig Ziglar changed my life, and continues to.

I truly remember my favorite motivational books that I read early on in my journey to better myself. “Eat That Frog” by Brian Tracy and “Who Moved My Cheese” by Spencer Johnson were early favorites that really helped me change my thinking and I remember things to this day from those books. I like books with kind of a “story” to them, which is why “Highest Calling” is also a favorite. Can’t remember that author’s name…. 🙂

When we read, we learn. When we learn, we grow, When we grow, we are happy.

Learning from other people that have been, there and done that, is priceless.

Personally I am a audio learner, so audio books are definitely my thing.

I typically will listen to a book A Week … most times that includes listening to the same book twice.

I know that might seem odd, but for me it works. I find myself on the first listen I will write down key things in my journal and review them on paper.
Then I will listen to the whole book again and see what else it gets out of me.

Some of the classics like
Think and Grow Rich, how to win friends and influence people, the power of positive thinking, as a man thinketh etc are in my library and I will review (even if just a chapter or two) monthly as well

I tend to read a book, become obsessed with it, reread it, make highlights, listen to the audiobook, and most importantly, try to implement what I’ve learned into my life. While I might read less books, hopefully I’m getting more out of the ones I do.

I just finished “Never Split the Difference” by Chris Voss this morning. Treehouse Team Leads regularly listen to and review audio books together! Brandon Carr picked this one for us! (hey Brandon!)

I read Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill EVERY day. There is so much gold in that one book. It has created more millionaires and billionaires than any other book. I recommend buying a hard copy of the book and leaving it in the bathroom. Then, leave your phone somewhere else while doing your “bathroom business.” The book and this process will change your year and your life.

1-2, but I wish I had time for more. I particularly love audible when driving.

Focusing is a real challenge and, as you said, the world is conspiring against us. With the digital age we are so closely connected to the happenings in the world that they can endlessly distract us, if we let it. I admit it’s a discipline for me to ignore the world around me that I have no control over and focus on the little world around me that I do have some control over. For those of us having struggles focusing there are many little “tricks” we can use to help us focus. Lot’s of books have been written on the subject. I recommend reading/listening to as many as we can get our hands on. Most self help books that I have read boil down to helping us identify and focus on the things that we need to do.

Well said Larry. There’s a ton of data out there proving you’re better off with fewer customers taking better care of them. The trap is how many is ‘enough’, but that’s another discussion 🙂

Been meaning to comment for a while, congrats on winning the Baja, also saw the piece on CBS!! Awesome!!!!

My wife constantly “pillages” our home of anything deemed excessive or unused. This can be frustrating but often leads to a sense of calm. I was recently in a home ~ 900ftsq with a customer that had 4 dogs, 4 adults including one permanently in a massive recliner, 2 parrots, 2 geese in the yard making a racket, 2 children and all the families belongings. I sat with my laptop perched on my leg with junk mail and god knows what else raining down on me as the kids kicked up a storm. The dogs were barking and the birds were squawking. I could feel the clutter and presence of all the people and animals baring down on me as I was trying to present . It took a lot of energy to focus. When I come home to a clean organized environment the contrast is apparent.

Good sleep does start the night before. It needs planned like everything else.

There is so much truth in this and yet it is one of the hardest things to do, especially for a workaholic (like myself). However, it is true and it would be wise to get sufficient sleep every day. It’s even difficult if not impossible to make up sleep by sleeping more the next day or sleeping ahead. It’s not how we were designed to operate.

Sleep is our superpower.
