There are people who work.  Most of us are doing stuff.

Then there are “Thought Leaders”. Ok, that’s nice.  We need ideas.

But a more valuable person is a Result Leader.  A Result Leader goes after a problem or goal, mixes in the best ideas no matter where they are from, and makes it happen.  

Results leaders solve problems, hit goals, complete difficult projects, GSD, and all without making a mess and causing other problems.

Result Leaders are MVP’s in an organization, no matter what their title or position.

No Trust – Bad Relationship

Think about it – do you have a good relationship with ANYBODY you don’t trust?

Make sure you do your part – be trustworthy and give trust to get it.

Trust = Good relationships; and life is about the quality of your relationships.

What makes the cash register ring?

You sell ________ to __________.

Do more of that.  

Better yet, build a team to do more of that.

Leaders need a students mind.

In the old days, the leader had all the important information.  Today, there is too much to know.  The leader knows less and less about all the critical functions that combine to make the business operate.  You couldn’t;t possibly know all the software, relationships, skills, and operations that combine to make a great company, unless you are very very small and not growing.  The world of all of these things is changing faster than you are.

If you know everything because you are the leader, as if you magically attained infinite wisdom the day you got the title, you can’t learn anything.

You need humility.

Leadership is 99% learning, observing how things are going with your team and processes, and 1% making decisions.  Then, when you make a call, it’s the right one.

Do employees have to like the leader?

Short answer – yes; if the leader expects to get the best out of them.

Winning and them liking you are not opposites.  They are related. 

If they like their leader they will give their best to not let you down.

Who wants to perform well for a leader they do not like?  

While they may not like some of the changes you try to get done at first, if they like you they will give it a good shot.  If they don’t like you, they will “try” and point out how the new change is no good – and even see to it that it doesn’t work.

People like leaders who care about them, believe in their abilities, appreciate them, and don’t insult them.

Do your employees like you?

Go easy

Nobody likes to hear negative feedback and criticism.

A good leader uses the positive relationship and trust they have previously established, and uses their voice and caring, to make it easy for the other person to take.

Is the negative feedback easy for people to hear from YOU?

To do lists – fine. But what is on them?

I use a to-do list to plan my day and to make sure I don’t forget anything.  (i use the Jim Rohn Success Planner available on Amazon.)

Most to-do lists are filled with tasks that fill up time and allow you to cross it off and feel like you are making progress.  Instead, ask what is most important.  What project is really going to move the needle in your business?  Put the steps to getting there on your to-do list instead. 

Do those tasks first each day.  If something doesn’t get done, let it be the tasks that are less important.

Make it a “Success List”.  Plan some real forward progress into each day.

If you don’t, who will?
