Opportunity in the distance?

For many of us, we think we see opportunity from great distances, yet we fail to recognize the opportunity right in front of us.  Maybe we’re bored (which is our fault).  Maybe we have “the grass is greener” disease.

You have to be somewhere -and without your full commitment, no career or opportunity blooms to its potential. 

Why not throw your whole self in to where you are?

Who values you?

Value, like beauty, is in the eyes of the beholder.

Who values what you have to offer?  Are you telling them about what you have?

What about your offering can you change so that it will be valued or more highly valued by more people?

I want more

Why?  To test my ability.  To feel like I am growing.  To experience forward momentum.  To be a greater factor in shaping my world.  To feel I’m not leaving talents inside me undeveloped.

How much is enough?  That’s up to each of us to decide – and live with the results.

Abundance of Help

You need the best people on your team.

There is an abundance of people out there who want to join your team and help your organization accomplish its goals.

Good people.  Honest people.  Happy people.  Hard working people.

If you “can’t find them”, that’s a personal problem on your part – and yours to fix.

Winter

When it’s winter, cold and icy, and the drifting snow is piled to your knees in seemingly unending waves, and the cold penetrates your soul, and every direction you look the bleak landscape rejects you – it’s hard to imagine summer and the warmth of the sun dusting your world with life and encouragement to go on.

Think.  Be sure you’re trekking in the right direction – and trek.

Quit

Quitting can be good – even essential for success.  If you’re –

• going the wrong way
• pursuing the wrong things
• hurting yourself (in the long term)
• have bad habits
• pursuing a high price/low reward goal
• going to quit something to make room or time for something better

Putting 6 or 12 or 535 people in a room talking about the same thing does not make them smarter.  Collectively, they are not the sum of all their intelligences put together.

In fact, when they disagree and jockey for position and power on that committee (board, council, congress) the quality of the intellectual output of its members diminishes quickly.

There is no “supermind”.  There are only individuals with individual ideas, and differing measures of will to bring those ideas into reality.

Why do you do it?

The man who does his work solely to look good to others, for their approval and their admiration, has a motivation that betrays himself – a big hole in his character that gets so large it becomes all there is – a hollow soul.

The man who does it for himself; for his personal satisfaction; to know himself and his growing competence; to discover all that he is and to reveal it to himself, is the fully actualized man – who does it for the approval of his own soul.
