Learn faster than they do

Eventually all the information (what to, how to) gets out there. But some company (leaders) don’t have a culture of learning and changing based on new information, tools, and ideas very quickly. 

Learning faster than your competition, and your group having a culture of doing so, may be the one innovation that keeps you perpetually ahead.

Does it work the way it needs to?

When it comes to assessing how you or your business does things, don’t think in terms of right or wrong for justification. This only leaves lots of room for personal reasons, ego, and history to get in the way (i.e. “because, because, because”).

Instead, think in terms of results.  Does it produce the results you are looking for or need to accomplish your goal, or not.

Does it work the way it needs to?

Institutional Multitasking

If you want to eat well, you don’t plant tomatoes, wait for them to grow and ripen, then think about planting corn.  You grow them at the same time.

Fixing your sales dept, production dept, marketing dept, etc is the same way.  

What thingS are you growing now? 

“MacGuyver it”

Resourcefulness can get you out of, through, or over a lot of situations.  You have more resources available to you than you are using.

Why not use them?

Can you think of a time or place where people were NOT allowed to pursue their own interests by trading freely, yet were a free people?

The more we regulate, license, restrain, tax, and burden people trying to freely do business with others, the less free we are.

Heroic Misadventures

Part of being the kind of person who can accomplish great things building a business, is simultaneously being the kind of person who can and will make mistakes.  Hopefully we can avoid very expensive mistakes and mistakes that take us in unfruitful directions for years or longer.  Mistakes are part of learning how to do anything – even and especially building and running a successful business.
