We shouldn’t bring our personal problems to work.  But the fact is if we have problems at home we will have problems at work – or at least not be as effective.

Design can invoke beauty, art, style, emotion, a difference, respect, innovation, ease and a smile.

In business, if you try to do what is easy, you will have lots of competition and low margins.

If you try to do what is impossible, you will fail.

If you try to do what is difficult and make it work, you’ll have something.

Before you start, look ahead.

Where are you overwhelmed?

In the area you are overwhelmed (maybe it’s all of it), you need to create other leaders out of the human potential that is all around you.  You need to tell someone “You are in charge of this now”.  Tell them what results you are looking for, how it will be measured, and give them to tools and information to succeed. Then do it again.  More leaders in your company is the answer to the overwhelmed leader you have now.

How many people report to you?

You can only manage a handful of people on a daily basis.  Any more than that and you get burned out, and you’re a bottleneck with everyone waiting for your decisions and approvals.

You need to build other leaders in your organization and give them responsibility for a group, task, dept.

The Long Road

You don’t build a business to it’s maximum potential in a few years.  You don’t become the kind of leader who can do that to your business in a few years.  It takes a long time.

A leader must keep his/her interest, drive and motivation up for 20 years or so, to make it the best it can be.
