Your Best Asset – A Trained Experienced Team

When a business or a new team starts out, you assemble a group of people who have not worked together before. They must be trained and that takes time. They will still make mistakes as they get experience and really learn. Some will not play nice with others and there will be disharmony.  Some will leave.  You have to start all over again with their replacement.

All this is expensive, and is a good part of why you won’t make money at first when you have new people. If you have constant turnover, these problems will persist.

Contrast that to a team that is trained and experienced and has worked together for years.  They can get the results you are looking for with little trouble, less management oversight, and light training for touch up and maintenance of their skills.

As the leader, your job is to build this kind of team quickly and keep it together.

The number one cause of business failure

Sales aren’t high enough.

Chasing a goal and being successful at it takes courage. Courage to step out of safety to the unknown.

But what happens if you don’t step out and you play it safe?

You’re not going to like that either.

A battle between you and….

Success is a battle between you and yourself.  

It’s a battle between who you are, who is struggling to stay in power, and the person you must be to get what you want, who is struggling to emerge.

If the person you are is too strong and defeats the new you trying to emerge, it will be hard to get new results.  If the person you are sees that the new you is better for you, and is willing to sacrifice its own existence to progress, positive change will come faster.

Journal in Color!

When I write in my journal, I write in different color ink.  I change colors between ideas.  I have pens all over the place of red, blue, black and green ink.  I have some fine markers of purple, and shades of other colors, too.  

It makes it interesting to read later, and you can discern where one idea ends and another begins.

I make stars and underline and make little drawings.  I am not stingy with the paper – it’s near free – use it up and express yourself! I create what I want to read later.

Your head is not a filing cabinet

Human beings have an unlimited capacity to forget.

Write things down.  Carry a spiral bound journal with you and write important things down.  

Make it a new habit.  You’ll be glad you did.

Entrepreneur or Self Employed?

A person who is self employed gets paid for their own output. A doctor, a lawyer, an accountant, and lawn service where the owner is mowing himself; while they all may have helpers, they stop getting paid the minute they stop working. They are selling their time.

An entrepreneur understands they do not get paid for their own output or time. They get paid for the output of their team. Their job is to build the team of the right people doing the right things to get the right result, not to do those right things themselves. There is a big difference.

A self-employed person cannot scale themselves. An entrepreneur can.

A self-employed person’s business does not outlive them and their efforts. An entrepreneur’s can.

The Leader is the Limit

If your leadership is at a 5, your organization can’t be at a 6.  In fact, it’s probably less than 5.
