How do they know if they are winning?

People are competitive by nature – they want to feel like they are winning. Even mild mannered people want to know if what they are doing is making a difference to the group, and if so, be recognized for it.

But has their supervisor told them exactly what they want them to do and set up a game they can win if they do well? Do they know exactly what to do differently to accomplish different results? Is someone measuring those actions of all the employees in the department so high performers can be recognized and motivated to put up more points on the scoreboard, and laggards know they can’t hide out?

Leaders must get clarity on a few metrics to move, communicate, and keep score publicly to get the most out of their teams.

If you don’t have the time for quality inputs into your mind (reading, studying, listening to audiobooks, research), you don’t have the time or tools for outputting greater value.

Dreaming 10X

What would have to happen for your business to grow 10 times its size in just a few years?

Think about it. Dream about it.  

Innovation? What would it have to provide to customers? How? At what price? Who would you need on your team? How would it be sold? How would you deliver it?

Spend an hour with blank paper and a pen on this.

Now…using these ideas, 2X doesn’t seem that hard, does it?

3D printing revolution

In the (not so distant) future, 3D printers will produce objects and parts for us in our businesses and homes. People won’t have to buy a part from a retailer, or distributor, that was stored in a warehouse and shipped; they’ll just download the file and print it. They will be able to print parts from a variety of materials – plastic at first, but eventually ceramics, metals and concrete.

Far fetched? Not long ago, so was having a device that does all the things smart phones do – right in your pocket. 

How will this affect your business? Pay attention, lest one of these innovations comes along and knocks you out!

Mastering in the Miscellaneous?

Your desk has lots of stuff on it. Piles of this and that with various objects here and there – all visual reminders of a variety of things, issues and ideas.  

Your email box is filled with the same variety of different stuff; other people’s agenda. “Miscellaneous.”

If we continue to master in the miscellaneous, we’ll never get control over what is most important.  

Does all that stuff need to get tended to (by us)? Not all, but yes, a good bit of it. But we need to make priority time, when our brain is at its best, to focus on those major fundamental things that will make tomorrow significantly better.
