Stop talking to customers?

If the leader wants to scale…then yes.  You need to train others to deliver great service to customers and sell to them and produce for them. 

Customers take lots of time, and if the leader never stops tending to them, she can never train others to do the job and replace her.

Tell them, show them, practice with them…

Train people to be great service providers to customers and other team members.

They don’t know how to do it when they came to you, and they won’t learn excellence by accident.

Be very intentional about even the basics.

Do the right things

A leader needs to worry less about doing tasks to perfection. Let employees accept that challenge. Instead, a leader must be growing personally and leading the team into previously uncharted waters. To do that, he will spend much of his/her time being an amateur at new things.

What’s most important for the leader is to be doing THE RIGHT THINGS.

Leaders get to tell a lot.  Today, ask a lot instead.

“How would you make this better?”

“What are your top ideas for doing this more efficiently?”

“If you could use a new tool to do your job better, what would it be?”

“What would you do if you were me?”

You are not alone.  Ask, and crowdsource ideas; you’re paying for them even if you don’t get them. 

Your leadership philosophy

Your income is not determined by the economy so much as your personal leadership philosophy.

You don’t need to wait on the economy or fix it, you need to work on you.

How do you purposely do that?

Go for 10X

Suspend disbelief and sit down and really think about how to grow your business 10X in the next 36 months.  It’s a really great exercise that gets your juices flowing.

Write the plan out.  You will come up with ideas, and action that is needed – and needed now to get you out of the spot you are in and to 2X and beyond.

Shoot for the moon, and you’ll land among the stars.

Leaders; figure out how not to get fired.

When employees constantly leave – for whatever reason, a lot of training and experience goes out the door. 

While some employee turnover is necessary and even healthy, if everyone (or most) are new, you’ll likely be spinning your wheels.

Hiring well is the start.  But one of the most difficult things to tell a businessperson, and for them to understand, is around them being the kind of person others would want to work for permanently.

This is why you need to work on you every day.  As simple character flaw or habitual omission could be all it takes for people to see that you aren’t the kind of person they want to bet their future on.

When good people leave voluntarily, they are firing their boss, their job, or their situation.

Figure out how not to get fired.

Step away and re-assess

This weekend step out and away from your business so you can see it.

Is it serving your life, or are you a slave to it?

Is it making your life better?

Do you like working each day?

What your business does and what you do in your business – can you do it differently than you are doing it now?

Do you need to adjust your whole approach to it?

The Rich Get Richer

This should not be a surprise.  

If one person is walking or not moving forward, and another has learned to run and is willing to put in the effort, they will get farther apart as the runner keeps going.

The rich get richer because they keep doing the things that make them successful.

The broke stay broke because they keep doing the things that make them broke.

So, learn how to be successful as soon as possible – and keep doing it.
