High prices fix high prices
We are in an economic boom. There's a shortage of materials and parts and people. Prices are going up. When prices are up, consumers figure out how to use less of it, and producers figure out how to produce more of it. Soon enough the balance of supply and demand…
Self – Conviction
If you're going to be convincing, you've got to be convinced. Do your salespeople use your company's products? Have they been in the plant, interviewed long-time customers, and been personally and emotionally touched by the benefits of what you sell? Confidence and enthusiasm are contagious.
Intoxicated by Possibility
Ambition is a quality exhibited by entrepreneurs. They are not happy with how things are, so they move on opportunity or create it. But all strengths can be weaknesses. Seeing opportunity in everything and trying to take action on too much can diffuse your energies to mere short bursts of…
Instant communication, delayed response.
The paradox of technology is that it has removed barriers that made communication slow and cumbersome and expensive while erecting barriers that inhibit interpersonal interaction. If you want to really communicate best, if it really matters to you or your business, meet with people face to face.
Leaders – Smile!
Smiling tells your team you are approachable, you got this, everything is ok, you like them, you approve of them, the future is bright, and so much more. Don't forget - smile!
Believe you can figure it out
When we do something new, we may not be confident that we can do it well, but believing you can learn to do it well is important. Don't be overconfident and arrogant, but maintain an open mind and learn from the right people while believing you will get there. Believe…
Confidence is attractive
Part of being a great leader or manager is being confident. People are attracted to others who are confident. Unconfident people do not inspire others to take their lead. Preparation and successful experience breed confidence. How confident are you?
Your workplace – emotionally safe?
If enough people, and key people really care about other people there, it's a safe place and people will stay and want to give good effort each day. It's not the only factor of course, but it's an important one. The competitive advantage of "we care about people".
What is more valuable than money?
Time. At the beginning of your career, you trade time for money. If you become successful your trade money for time. Time is perishable. It's going by and you can not save it. Chose how you use it wisely.
Allocating time
You don't have time to do it all. As a leader of a team, you are not supposed to do it all. Everything you say yes to, you say no to something else. Are you ensuring your team is clear and going in the right direction? Are you doing things…

6% increase on equipment 2/1/21. Now 7% on 6/1/21. Thx Joe!
YES! No question….. People in our area don’t go to work because they can make more sitting at home. We have restaurants closing or cutting hours because of no workers! It is really bad!
We the people need to help our incoherent government to stop paying all this stimulus money. Make people work for what they get.
Yes! Prices are nuts. Ex: our equipment went up 7% in Jan and went up another 6% in April and I don’t think we are done.
YES
Yes. And lets hope your right an things fix themselves. I’m not as optimistic. I see a flashback of 2008

Yes
Absolutely yes.

Yes… I’m not sure how these highly educated leaders of our country and states thought what they were doing with unemployment was a good idea. Now they want to give people, a sign on bonus I guess you’d call it, if they go back to work, lol, didn’t see that coming.
Yes – people are making more money sitting home and collecting these stimulus checks. Businesses are desperate and offering more money than ever for help. Something’s gotta change soon.
Yes, absolutely! Sit on your a** and make more then most actual employers can/will pay means no one wants to work. No workers means nothing it getting made. Supply and demand, but demand hasn’t “really” went up. The supply has just decreased significantly.
Yes current unemployment policy has caused a worker shortage. We asked a person picking up pallets at our shop if he wanted a job or knew anyone who did. He said no and that he knew many friends who were home enjoying the benefits that would be back working again after the benefits expire. One persons answer but I think it’s pervasive.
Yes
Of course the extra unemployment compensation has created a worker shortage. The extra U/E equates roughly to the equivalent of 15.00 per hour. Why would anyone choose to give up 15.00 per hour for not working and go to work for minimum wage?
ABSOLUTELY YES on prices/costs. We are also implementing a 2nd price increase this year. On the employee side we are doing well here at our company, retaining our good people. But are not currently hiring so have not reached out to the employment pool too much. Why would anyone want to return to work before they are sure all the stimulus and unemployment benefits are over??? Heaven forbid. (exasperated shrug emoji)
Of Course it has!
yes!!
ABSOLUTELY YES
Keep it simple!
Yes it has caused an issue
Yes, there are less people available to work – why work when receiving so much in unemployment compensation.
Yes. Its been a challenge to hire Carpenters/Painters/Shop workers
100% Yes! We are defiantly feeling it in our industry. The drive to work feels like it has fizzled out on most of the US (or at least California).
I would have to agree that the added unemployment benefits with no requirement to job seek are keeping some from entering the work force. We have been needing about 10 positions filled for several months, but within a few days of our governor saying he was not going to pay the additional weekly welfare, we filled all the positions and have a waiting list. Hmmmm…Do you think Joe was wrong in saying that it wasn’t deterring people from entering the workforce? But, that is only my personal experience. Here is a thought, maybe there are different circumstances in different parts of the country instead of a blanket approach that everybody needs the same thing. Just a Thought!!
Our focus is too close. Zoom out. This is the planned destruction of Capitalism. Look at the Wold Economic Forums many agendas and the picture gets frighteningly clear.
“You will own nothing and you will be happy”.
P.S. This is how it was just done in Venezuela.
Yes. The enhanced unemployment benefits have created a problem with many businesses not being able to hire enough staff. It is absurd that people can make more money not working than they can from working. The intent was good. The result is bad.
It hasn’t really caused me to have a shortage. However, it has been a little more difficult to “sell” our company to potential hires. The inflated unemployment benefits seem to be difficult for some to leave and get back to work. Flip side, those who are applying are serious and excited about getting back to work, they seem to be easier to get to buy in.
absolutely… yes,…. without a doubt
I understand the price increase but it seems like the suppliers use this as an excuse to keep the price high and don’t alway return to what they were or even close.
Yes
The additional monies are making it extremely difficult to even get people to apply, let alone come in for an interview that has been set up after speaking with them on the phone. Any dealers that have any ideas, please email me: [email protected] Thank you in advance for any help, it is greatly appreciated!!

We haven’t seen a decrease in our personal employees or in our immediate trades due to the increased unemployment compensation. However, I hear from many suppliers and manufacturers that they are having a shortage of workers. This is leading to supply shortages and higher prices.
I have been told by a lot of my customers they can’t find workers – so Yes
