Play to Win
Play to win. This is different than playing not to lose. You can't win with great defense alone. You have to score some points. Go on the offense.
Have a sense of urgency
A sense of urgency is different than being in a hurry. For leaders, it often means that you waste no time getting to your Highest Value Activity, and when it's done, getting to the next one after that. It means no wasted time in having important conversations and steering the…
Shorten your timeline
If you feel you have all the time in the world, that's how long it will take. When you shorten your timeline (deadline) things speed up. We have done incredible things in short periods of time when we had to. Nothing like a pending event or release date or rollout…
Faith raises your frequency
Faith - let's call it believing. When you believe in a positive outcome, you shift from doubt to positive expectation - you see things you didn't see before. You act and think in a different way, and that different way often is the difference between success and failure. Do you…
Make your job smaller
The next classic idea from my School of Entrepreneurship is the antidote to the problem that "you don't scale". If you work 12 hours a day and still feel like you can't get it all done - you are doing it wrong. You have outgrown your winning strategy of working…
Don't grow a broken business
Another idea expressed in the emotional story in my book "The Highest Calling", is that you don't want to grow a broken business; you want to fix it first, then grow it. Many seasoned business owners don't want to grow. Why? They have "all they can handle" now. They have…
To set things right…
The next classic Contractor Nation School of Entrepreneurship idea is this - To set things right you have to see things right. How many times have you made a wrong decision because you didn't have enough information or you jumped too soon? You hear a case made by one person…
Compexity doesn't scale
Another idea we teach in my School of Entrepreneurship is that complexity doesn't scale. If your business is complicated it's hard to teach to others. It's hard for anyone to understand. Instead, make simple models that you can draw out on one sheet of paper to show how your business…
You Don't Scale
I have been in business 40 years now. I'm still learning and getting better all the time. I spent 3 1/2 years writing and delivering content for the Contractor nation school of Entrepreneurship (thesoe.com) - the only complete business school for home improvement and repair contractors ever created - and…
Designing your "Machine"
Your business is perfectly designed to get the results it's getting now. Think about that. What different results do you want? This is your experiment. Does it end here? What changes do you need to make?

Morning Larry- I look forward toy your e-mails every day. I really appreciate the knowledge you share with everyone. Thanks
Hi Larry – thank you for these messages! A great way to start the day!
Hello from Dayton, Ohio. Didn’t want you to feel lonely this morning! Have a good day.
Good morning ? from CT-great photo and strong message ??
Today, I am grateful for all the family members of the CBS team – the employees, their spouse/SO, their children, their friends – all of whom have been a large part of the joy that has filled my heart for 27 + years of my long and happy journey with this company. Each and every one – a blessing to this ancient mariner.
Thanks for this one Larry, I enjoyed the offense meeting we had earlier in the week. In my opinion, it was the best one yet! From time to time I forget about scoring the points, I’ve had days (sometimes a string of them) where all I can do is play defense. It’s pretty liberating when you realize that you can actually score some points. I’d rather be playing offense one hundred percent of the time!
Winning is great, as long as we remember to give God the glory and thank him for all His blessings. 🙂
Larry,
I have begun reading your blogs every day and appreciate the well thought out content.
Keep up the good work!
Good morning Larry,
Don’t fell lonely, there’s thousands of us out here reading TD! Thanks for all the inspiring messages!

Today I am grateful for all the insights and motivation from Larry.
Today I am grateful for Larry Janesky!
Win everyday.
Larry,
I enjoy your thoughts and you inspire me to push myself. I direct the physical plant at a large healthcare facility. I also enjoy your racing- I am an avid enduro rider who is always pushing to improve my skills. Your advice helps me push the limits there too. Work hard so you can have a magnificent life full of adventure, right? There is nothing like sharing the experience of making it through a difficult ride with good friends. Maybe I’ll get to line up next to you at Baja in the future. Thank you for your inspiration- ride on and good luck competing.
Time for another motorcycle video. Loved all of the ones you made. I enjoy the blog too. Thanks again.
Going on offense can be risky, but without risk there there is no reward!
Better to lose while trying hard to win, than to lose from fear of losing…
Also grateful for the warm weather and open windows! 🙂
Although not so much for the pollen that goes along with it….
