People don’t like to be told what to do. They do like to be asked their opinions though.
People will not argue with their own answers.

Do you like Think Daily?
Has it helped you think through things better and added value to you?
Isn’t it great that it’s free and Larry never tries to sell you anything?
Do you think that if you recommended it to others, they would appreciate you for doing so?
Would you refer at least one friend today?
Very good point
OK. OK. OK. I get your point. Thank you.
Questions are the best directions to give! Here are some others:
1) How do you think is best to complete that task?
2) Have you considered or ever tried doing it this other way?
3) If you do it this certain way do you think it might be quicker/less costly/better?
4) What do you think the customer would like best?
5) Did anyone inform you of how particular the customer is?
6) Were you able to get in touch with the customer to let them know…?
7) Do you have any ideas on how we can improve productivity of our crews?
8) Can you think of any ways to keep our worksites cleaner and safer?
etc, etc, etc.
Good questions will help people to think and that will help them to grow and do better for themselves.
If we only ever do what we are told then we will only ever go as far as our instructors tell us.
