People who speak more slowly are perceived as more credible.
Take note, leaders, managers, and salespeople!
I have been doing sales training for decades. A common mistake of new salespeople is to talk, talk, and talk more. They talk fast, and they feel they need to fill the silence with more talking.
Actually, people like it when you ask them questions and let them talk. In sales, at a party, wherever.
And when you speak slowly, people perceive you as more thoughtful.
You may come off as less defensive and more confident, too.
How fast do you talk?
Good morning Larry, that is an impressive number. I am one of the faithful daily readers and I have gained alot of good business knowledge.

Thank you for sharing this perspective. Because I almost started to think that I should unsubscribe the non-openers. But I’ll let them grow with the opportunity that they will one day tune-in. I enjoy reading your daily emails and I am recommending ThinkDaily to my audience as well. Thank you for being a daily reader. I learn a lot from you and always appreciate your thoughts on how we can all improve our lives and the lives of others.
Moderately slow talker, definitely not a fast talker – cant stand fast talkers. I worked for a company and the owner would say “listen to the customer and the rest will take care of itself.” I have become a good listener but my wife will probably disagree. lol
“We have two ears and one mouth so that we can listen twice as much as we speak.”
Totally agree and I try to practice this technique as much as possible. Another helpful tip is to use pauses to gather your thoughts so that you speak more clearly and intelligently. Try to avoid filler words such as ‘uh’ and ‘uhm’. People appreciate thoughtful, intelligent conversation but will be on guard if you seem to be making it up as you go.
