I have been in business a long time. 44 years. I have seen a lot. And I have seen things long enough to identify one-off events from patterns.
One thing I know is that there is no coasting and expecting things to hum right along as they have been.
You have to defend what you have built. You have to maintain it. You have to cast out the forces that lead to decline.
You have to defend it from competitors, and people who want to eat your lunch.
You have to keep innovating, building very positive customer relationships, and make sure your team doesn’t mess up.
You have to keep employees engaged.
If you don’t, erosion will begin and lead to disintegration.
Leaders can’t lean on the glory of yesterday.
The past does not equal the future.
Positive action is necessary.
Always.
Exactly what I have been talking to our Indy team about for the a bit now. It’s really true with our CFI team here in Indy at the moment. We’re in a phase that achieving next level has proven to be a big challenge. We have a different way of thinking!
Amen.
I tell my team, our success is not a given. We have to earn it each day, week, month and year.
Great reminder! This is a nice virtual kick in the seat of my pants that I need on occasion. Thank you!
