Whoever fields the best team wins.

Larry Janesky: Think Daily

Leader – “team builder in chief”.

Recruit the best you can.

Train the best you can.

Motivate, lead, and empower the best you can.

Recognize and appreciate the best you can.

If your team is better than their team, you win.

I love this! In my younger years I was a baseball player and looking back what I really learned from that experience is all about teamwork. A great coach can take average players and make them great. He can identify strengths and weaknesses and put the right people in the right places accordingly. He can identify weak spots on the team and bring in alternate players. He can also dismiss the low performers and make them sit on the bench. There are definite performance metrics to measure player’s performance. There is a definite goal to be reached and a clear definition of what winning looks like. In the end when we win the whole team celebrates. We can learn a lot about how to run a business by looking at how to coach a sports team.
