You cannot babysit your way to accountability and high performance.

You must unlock it by making your people WANT to give their best.

How? Trust them.  Be clear on expectations and results.  Challenge them.  Believe in them.  Train them.  Gamify or at least measure their work.  Smile at them.  Talk to them.  Listen to them.  Make them feel important.  Thank them.  

If they feel like they don’t want to let you down, you have done your job well.

I find that I work harder when other people are counting on me. When everyone feels part of a team and knows their role they don’t want to let each other down and sharing a clear common goal encourages others to help out without being asked.
