Problem?

Larry Janesky: Think Daily

Problem?

What system is missing or broken that, if fixed, would prevent this from ever happening again?

Decades ago, I was having problems with my crews doing work fast enough and well enough.

I couldn’t micromanage them.  I had to create a system where it got fixed and stayed fixed.

It turned out to be my greatest invention, and ultimately allowed EVERYTHING ELSE that came after it to happen.

Problem is just another way of saying opportunity for improvement.

Thx Larry, love your daily posts!

What’s the system?

Thx!

Thanks for your dedication to these posts! Powerful stuff! Will you share what your solution was?

I to am curious about your system! I know that to be a real problem solver we must actually solve the PROBLEM not just remedy the symptoms. I see many people who believe they are solving problems but they have a very small and shortsighted view of the problem and also the resulting “remedy”. Politicians fit squarely in this category. If they knew how to solve problems our world would be a much better place. Can we start teaching real problem solving in schools? It’s a lost art, if we ever had it!

I am interested in you solution, your thought on my comments, and to know if you have a profit sharing program template that you sell. I am working on bringing back or profit sharing program after several years of not being able to do it. My plan is for is to be as simple as possible to administrate, transparent, and solve the problems you are referring to. My thought is that I may still have folks that only want to do enough to keep their job (sad for them). My hope is that everyone else will be motivated to do their best the first time, all the time. Bringing the job in under budget and without problems will add to their pool. Jobs running over, careless mistakes, loosing tools, not maintaining equipment, re-work, etc. will all come out of the pool. Properly set up, my folks should mostly manage themselves and negligent bad behavior (for the most part) will not have to come out of my pocket
