Are you an introvert? Do you need your alone time to think and work? Do you like the quiet vs the energy of other people around all the time?
Don’t get me wrong, being an introvert doesn’t mean you don’t like other people. I love other people. I just can’t focus when they are talking to me or buzzing around. Sometimes I am ready for other people and it’s all good. But I don’t need to interact as much as others who are not introverted.
Dr. Helgoe says in her book “Introvert Power” that introverts should “Claim your space and tempo. Whether it’s a quiet corner or pacing your day, introvert power lies in setting environments that recharge you, not exhaust you.”
She says “Introversion values depth over surface. Introverts connect deeply, express meaningfully, and lead thoughtfully – there’s real power in stillness.”
Leaders must know themselves, and know their team members to foster harmony and high performance.
Proud to see the shout out to Michael Daconto in Indy!!! He is invaluable to our organization and a wonderful human being!!!
Michael is an amazing young man. We are very proud of him!
Definitely. My best work time is early in the morning with no one else around and no calls, texts, emails, etc.
Absolutely, I am!
Nailed it that’s me
I’m definitely an introvert. I love quiet and solitary pursuits such as reading.
I love this! I am social and love meeting new people and listening to their stories so always considered myself an extrovert however I find to recharge my energy, I must do so at home with my husband and fur babies and not connect to outside world.
It also depends on the job and you have to adjust accordingly. Working in a company with 50 people and you interact daily with nearly half of them, you must adapt if you are an introvert. I have also worked remotely for a company of 1,500 people but the remote work allows you to focus more on your tasks, with less distractions that usually are team conference calls, unnecessary e-mails, etc. Both types of roles have their pros and cons. If I had to pick one….remote work. Better quality of life.
I am an introvert who loves people, also. I usually need quiet time in biblical study and prayer to prepare myself for the day and whatever it brings. It helps me to put my life in the proper perspective and take the day and events as a learning experience. And if I can bless someone in the process I try to do that too. And when I can squeeze in the time I love riding my dirtbike. As you know there is nothing more challenging, fun, humbling, and satisfying then riding your dirtbike with your mates, family, and by yourself.
Everything you said… It’s so hard to thrive in an environment set by an extrovert boss who thinks it energizes everyone the way it does him, but it actually depletes your energy to work in it.
It has the effect of absorbing much of the energy that you could use to be more engaged and productive in a more suitable environment… 😐
