One way is to filter out the wrong people faster.

I recall having someone who wasn’t right for a position for years.  Once they left, it created an opening. 

In that opening, we had the opportunity to put someone better.

We could have created that opening much sooner.

This is not an excuse for rushing the hiring process.  But doing the job is the ultimate job interview.  You see exactly how the person fits and performs.  Hopefully, you have the right person for the job.  But, if you find they aren’t right, make the opening to find someone who is perfect and will help your group get to where they want to go.

Don’t wait years.  Do it now.
