If an organization, such as a company, needs a turnaround, it’s because the leader, with their best thinking and actions, has led the company into this predicament.
If that is you, ouch. Sorry. But I’ve been there. Your best thinking got you here. Right?
In a public company, they change out the leader. You can get someone to run your company better than you can – I have seen that even in 30-person companies.
But let’s say it’s your baby, and you are still going to be the leader. If you’re not going to change the leader, then the leader must change.
If you’re going to do a turnaround, you need to do the turning.
As the leader goes, so goes the business.
What attitudes/premises/ideas are you going to change? What do you have to learn? What do you have to give up? What work do you need to do on yourself? Who do you need to help you? Who do you need to hire? How do you get the people you already have to help you turn it around?
Honest reflection is the first step to growth.
I’ve often said to myself, if our company was publicly traded the leader would have been gone in 2018. Fast forward seven years and its still the same boring, uninspiring, leadership. Fortunately, the company has some good managers that keeps things rolling.
