How do I "get it all done"?

Larry Janesky: Think Daily

Highly successful people know that is the wrong question.

You don’t get it all done. You don’t have to.

You just have to get the RIGHT things done.

The team does the rest.

Each individual team member faces the same question in a different context. Understanding the effect each of our actions have on another department, team member, or the over all outcome of a job is good to know. I focus on my tasks but I always have to be aware of the effects my actions have on the surrounding. In some instances is smart to speak up and share insights in other instances standing quiet is a more advisable approach.

How do I act if one of the hiring managers gives me an insincere answer to a question I asked her in person?

I have to respect the choices each individual members make and trust that they know what actions are to the organizations benefit.

Being surprised throws one off balance so it is not a mortal sin to give an incomplete or insincere answer. It is a lesson that can help one perfect their approach and tactic in similar situations or questions.

If a decision was not made yet, even though the referrals were checked, say that ‘we are still processing the information and working on making a decision’. Do not say that you didn’t have the time to check all the referrals because that creates a bad vibe. Also, knowing that there were no other candidates for a position you were interview for because they told you so during the interview makes the final explanation of “another candidate was selected for the position” another hard to accept sincere answer.
