Rule of Law Absent in Half the World

Larry Janesky: Think Daily

Free enterprise and the protection of individual rights can only exist in a society governed by a consistent rule of law, rather than by the arbitrary decrees of government officials.  When the rule of law is supplanted by the discretionary judgements of those in power, all freedoms are in danger.

What ails the countries where things aren’t working out so well?  Not religion, resources, or local custom – it’s that the rule of law is absent.  Without sound monetary policy, individual rights, property rights, government accountability, ease of doing business, and public oversight mechanisms, things just aren’t going to go well for most people.

How true this is. One can hope that the leaders of our great country will operate with this same philosophy.

This is what worries me Larry, the rule of law is already being supplanted by the discretionary judgement of those in power.

Whenever I travel overseas I come home grateful for the rule of law and engineering standards that make our infrastructure and food supplies safe. We live in the best country in the world…..Glad to be here, in the USA!
